The services required relate to the investigation of a Project Idea (“UNICEF Nepal Project”) that entails working with local stakeholders to find ways of improving the customs clearance process for UNICEF health and other humanitarian products in Nepal. • Provided the technical expertise and know-how required to validate the current understanding of the challenges and evaluate the feasibility of developing a project to address these challenges.
With the aim of delivering on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and supporting coherence on the ground among UN agencies, the UN Development System is repositioning itself with a reinvigorated Resident Coordinator System at the center. The purpose of this consultancy was to support effective monitoring of results and reporting to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and different UN thematic groups under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator. • Coordinated planning, monitoring and reporting of UNCT results under the UN Development Assistance Framework. • Supported knowledge management, data collection and information management with a special focus on UNINFO. • Designed, developed and delivered draft 2021 UNCT Nepal Results Report in a record 8 weeks time.
Nepal's national designated authority for the Green Climate Fund has requested FAO as an accredited entity to develop a project “Promoting transformative and climate-resilient agriculture for sustainable livelihoods and food security in Nepal (CRA).” The US$ 43.1 million project aims to instigate transformational change towards climate-resilient and higher-value agriculture. • Undertook private sector assessment for interventions targeting agricultural value chains and natural resources management. • Assessed the private sector entities to identify their role in transformative and climate-resilient agriculture. • Identified and documented 1400+ Nepali agriculture companies with possibilities of engagement in the CRA project. • Designed engagement approach and value chain strengthening strategy for private sectors with climate disaster risk, and delivered private sector assessment report for full funding proposal.
USAID Tayar Nepal – Improved Disaster Risk Management Project is a five-year (2019-2024), $33.5 million project to strengthen the capacity of Nepal’s national, provincial and municipal institutions responsible for disaster risk reduction, preparedness and response. • Led and managed multi-stakeholder engagement and partnerships between government, development partners and private sector, including support in COVID-19 early response and economic recovery activities. • Designed and oversaw the Private Sector Engagement approaches/strategy to facilitate more partnership agreements, resource mobilization and strategic investments from businesses to address COVID-19 impacts and Disaster Resilience in Nepal. • As an objective lead for COVID-19 economic recovery task order, supported 700 MSMEs in 12 partner municipalities by facilitating their access to finance and business development services. • Also as a technical focal point, designed, implemented and successfully closed Tayar Nepal’s first Annual Programme Statement (APS) grant on hand sanitizer production and free distribution under public-private partnership model for rapid COVID-19 response. • Helped design and implement other APS grants that include pilot testing index-based agriculture insurance against water induced disasters, and development of a collaborative disaster reduction mechanism for hydropower projects and communities in Nepal.
NBC, a Lincoln University Malaysia affiliate, is a torch-bearer of educational excellence in the eastern region of Nepal. • Taught Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics and Business Environment to BBA 3rd, 5th and 7th semesters respectively. • Supported in business development and academic collaboration activities including preparation and submission of RFP and EOI to international organizations, universities and experts. • Continue providing course/career advice and reference to students for work and further studies.
Hamro Samman is a five-year (2017-22), $14 million counter-trafficking in persons (CTIP) project supported by USAID and DFID. The programme seeks to strengthen government efforts, improve civil society organization advocacy, and increase private sector partnerships to combat TIP in Nepal. • Right from the project design until inception, led opportunity identification, strategy development and partnership with private sector organizations including Microsoft, Ncell and National Business Initiative. • Helped build solid foundation to achieve private sector component objectives of the project through support in quarterly and annual work plans, meetings and engagement, MOUs etc. • Conducted mapping of private sector stakeholders and facilitated creation of sustainable and meaningful private sector contribution to assist survivors and those at risk of being trafficked.
Alpine Electronics is the consumer electronics subsidiary of Japanese electronics component manufacturer Alps Electric, specializing in car audio and navigation systems. • Undertook standardization and compliance approval of Alpine’s data communication devices with government entities including Nepal Telecommunications Authority.
Connect to Grow is a first-of-its-kind DFID funded programme designed on the premise that there is immense opportunity to build sustainable, mutually beneficial partnership between enterprises in the South that can magnify social and economic impact of the enterprises and help them grow. • Supported identification of suitable, growth-oriented enterprises by reaching out to their networks and targeting those that might benefit from the programme. • Helped foster growth and innovation through partnership creation between Nepali enterprises and enterprises in India, within the health and agri-food sectors. • The Connect programme had great success and launched 4 partnerships in Nepal, the most of any participating countries.
DANIDA and ILO launched a new strategic partnership in Nepal to create inclusive settings for growth and innovation by strengthening forums where the private and public sector could enter into a dialogue on policy issues. • Provided technical assistance to Advocacy for Rights and Good Corporate Governance Project. • Helped institutionalize Advocacy Challenge Fund to support initiatives addressing responsible and sustainable business practices, good corporate governance and inclusive economic development related human and labour rights issues.
UNNATI – Inclusive Growth Programme, a five-year (2014-19) $70 million programme under Nepal- Denmark Development Cooperation, was implemented at national level with focus on seven districts in the eastern region of Nepal and emphasized on private sector development. • Assisted management contractor to draft inception report to strengthen the value chains of orthodox tea, ginger, dairy products and large cardamom by improving production through access to finance, rural infrastructure and business enabling environment. • Prepared communication documents for the programme and supported in developing trade related knowledge of selected exportable products in the South Asia region.
KUSOM is Nepal's premiere business school and rated highly in South Asia. • As a visiting faculty for MBA course, taught students on international trade, foreign investment and development, including global supply chains, trade facilitation and non-tariff measures. • Lectured four batches and supervised 20 student-led academic projects focused on international trade and published 15 articles in leading national broadsheets.
The EIF for Trade-Related Assistance for the Least Developed Countries is a global development programme with the objective of supporting least developed countries to better integrate into the global trading system and to make trade a driver for development. • Working for the focal point of the Government of Nepal under the Aid for Trade and EIF mechanisms, supported the Government in trade mainstreaming, trade promotion, awareness raising on trade issues and capacity development. • Prepared and finalized answers on behalf of Nepali government in relation to questions posed by WTO member-states under the framework of Nepal’s first trade policy review. • Managed the implementation of Nepal Trade Integration Strategy 2010 as an Interim Manager of the Nepal Enhanced Capacities for Trade and Development (NECTRADE) Project. • Helped finalize Nepal’s first EIF Tier 2 project entitled Enhancing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Capacity of Nepalese Ginger Exports through Public Private Partnership, as well as the second EIF Tier 2 project entitled Pashmina Enhancement and Trade Support.
The Nepal Economic, Agriculture and Trade (NEAT) project was designed by the United States Government (USG) to promote the USG’s strategic vision for Nepal, by achieving “measurable progress in expanding and deepening democracy ...”. (Country Assistance Strategy 2009-13) • Conducted design, implementation and data management of an assessment of private sector service providers. This assessment addressed the needs of the poor in Nepal and linked them to opportunities to improve their livelihood through agricultural marketing and value chains. • Undertook additional assignments where I mapped and analyzed market-price fluctuations of 12 different commodities in Nepali and Indian markets over the previous three years. • Developed a Training Manual on Basic Business Management for micro-entrepreneurs.
Practical Action is a British NGO that works to improve the livelihoods of the poor and disadvantaged by implementing sustainable development. • Advised Practical Action’s engagement with the private sector actors in Nepal.
Helvetas is a Swiss NGO that supports actions leading to self-propelling development and eradication of poverty. • Provided consultancy services to the Helvetas managed EU Employment Fund and Elam Project. • Conducted study of sub-contracting practices in textile weaving sub-sector in Birgunj industrial corridor area. • Recommended models to replicate sub-contracting possibilities in other sectors for job creation and employment.
Practical Action is a British NGO that works to improve the livelihoods of the poor and disadvantaged by implementing sustainable development. • Supported data collection and proposal development of dairy sector in the central and western region and crisis-affected markets in the far western region of Nepal.
